Matt Porter ~ DVM
Born in Lenexa, KS Dr. Porter attended Kansas State University and graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in the spring of 2010. He then moved to SD and purchased James Valley Vet clinic in October 2011. Dr. Porter focuses mainly on small animal medicine and surgery, although he does enjoy the occasional equine work.
Dr. Porter is married to Dr. Kristina Porter (a local large animal veterinarian). They have 3 little girls Maria, Annie, and Jordyn . They have 1 dog(Riley) and 2 cats(Beasley and Boophilus). Dr. Porter’s main hobby’s include reading, playing at the lake and spending time with family.

The staff at James Valley Veterinary Clinic deliver kind, thorough, thoughtful care to the patients and clients that call or come into the clinic each day. Education about pets and pet health care is of utmost importance.
The primary goal of everyone at James Valley Veterinary Clinic is to treat patients like family members. We offer the most up-to-date, highest quality, safest medicine and treatments for the animals that are seen each day. We set our protocols to ensure each patient’s health and welfare. We strive to never assume to know what a pet owner wants, to offer all of the available options, and to help with the decision making process.
Occasionally, the necessary care for a patient is better provided by a specialist. Dr. Porter and his staff offer any needed referrals for diagnostics and treatments outside of James Valley Veterinary Clinic. We understand that different factors play into each client/patient relationship and that what is right for one may not be right for another.
We offer, and recommend, senior wellness profiles, preventative dentistry, and arthritis screening for all of our patients as they age. We also offer compassionate end of life options for our patients, and counseling about these options for our clients. We do have a crematorium for the respectful care of our patients’ remains.
